Android gaming just got a powerful new tool with the porting of the Lossless Scaling Frame Generation (LSFG) utility from PC to Android. This tool, developed by FrankBaretta, utilizes Vulkan to enhance frame generation in a variety of games, including those without built-in frame generation or scaling. The LSFG utility is now accessible through the GameNative app, which is already integrated into version 0.9.1, offering a seamless experience for Android gamers. However, it's important to note that the mobile port requires a copy of the $7 PC app and is optimized for Snapdragon processors with Adreno 600 series GPUs or newer. While the Android version introduces significant latency issues, it can still boost frame rates dramatically, as demonstrated by the improvement from 30fps to over 80fps in The Last of Us Part 1. Users have reported even more impressive results, reaching 60fps and 120fps. Nonetheless, the Android version's latency issues make it less suitable for games requiring split-second reflexes. The LSFG utility is not a panacea, and its effectiveness depends on the device's ability to maintain a playable frame rate. Interestingly, GameNative isn't the only PC gaming app to adopt frame generation. GameHub, a prominent app, recently added an AI frame generation feature in version 6.0.1, though the source of this feature remains unclear. The integration of LSFG into GameNative and GameHub showcases the growing trend of AI-powered frame generation in Android gaming, offering smoother and more immersive experiences for players.
